How Can I Store & Move My Big Files?
by Tim Campbell, editor
W
What should you do if your hard drive is filled to capacity? What can you do if your Word document is so big, because of imported graphics, that it won't fit on a floppy disk? Well, you have a few options.

E-mail
If you're in a quick bind and you need to get a big file from your system to another person's, you can always e-mail the file. I know several large companies who transfer large files solely by e-mail. It works very well, especially on internal e-mail systems. Depending on the configuration of your e-mail servers, you may not be able to send or receive very large files. A common e-mail file-size limit is 10mb.

Storage media
Storage media refers to an internal or external hard drive that is used to store computer files. It is usually stationary because of the cords and connections used to attach the drive to the main system. If you have lots of files on your system and you need continual access to them, an additional hard drive would give you greater storage capacity.CD-ROM

Transport media
Transport media refers to the different ways you can transport or store files. Typically, transport media comes with two components, a drive that you attach to your main system and a disk or cartridge that is used to transport the actual computer files. Permanent transport media like CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs also offer a safe choice for storage as they are permanent (just don't scratch them). Erasable media (like floppy disks, Zip disks and Jaz cartridges) are great for quick transport but aren't as good for storage as they can fail or corrupt over time. slug
