How Can I Crop an Inserted Image?
by Tim Campbell, editor
Y
You've inserted an image into your document but you only want to use a piece of the image. What can you do? There are two simple ways to crop your image.

The click & drag method

1. Open your document and click on the graphic

2. Select the "Crop" tool from your Picture toolbar
If the picture toolbar isn't visible, go to the "View" menu, pull down to "Toolbars" and then select "Picture." If there's already a checkmark next to it, deselect it. Then go back and reselect it and watch where it appears on your screen. The "Crop" tool looks like two intersecting corners.

3. Click and drag one of the sizing handles inward
Sizing handles are the little eight little squares that appear around an image when it's selected. You can uncrop the image by following the same instructions but by dragging a sizing handle away from the image's center.

The exact method

1. Open your document and click on the graphic

2. Go to the "Format" menu and select "Picture"

3. Select the "Picture" tab

4. Change the values in the boxes
By changing the values in the Top, Bottom, Left and Right fields, you can crop an image (or uncrop a previously cropped image) with great precision. If you make a mistake, you can always choose "Undo" from the "Edit" menu and start over. slug
