Are There Standard Envelope Sizes?

here are a whole lot of different envelope styles — from catalog to announcement to commercial envelopes. They also come in many different sizes and colors.

What's best for you?
If you want to print a project on a particular paper stock with a matching envelope, it's a good idea to make sure that the envelopes are available first. Not all paper stocks have matching envelopes. You can often have envelopes custom-made but it can be a costly proposition and there will likely be a large minimum quantity.

Size matters
Be sure to take into account that the sizes below are the envelope's dimensions. Whatever you want to go in them will have to be smaller than these sizes (by an 1/8" on each side minimum) or it will be tough to load the envelope.

Announcement
These are very common envelopes and are used for cards and invitations. The flaps can be pointed, flat or even deckled (like ripped paper).

These are more formal envelopes, are deeper and typically use a pointed flap. They're mostly used for invitations.
