Keep Your Place with Bookmarks

Working with large documents can get quite confusing, especially if you keep adding and deleting large blocks of text. Word provides a very easy way to quickly return to key points in your document. This method is called "adding bookmarks."

Save my Spot
Bookmarks, just like their real-world counterparts, are a great way to save your spot in a large document. Here's how to make and use them.

1. Use your cursor to select the text you want to bookmark.

2. Go to Insert > Bookmark.

3. Type a name for the bookmark and click "Add."

4. Repeat these steps as often as you like.

When you need to return to a bookmarked spot, just do the following:

Man looking for bookmarks1. Press the "F5" key and click on the "Go To" tab.

2. Choose "Bookmark" from the list.

3. Choose the bookmark that you want from the drop-down menu.

4. Click "Go To" and before you can say "bookmark," you'll be there. Word will select all of the text contained inside the bookmark. slug

Helpful Hints

  • file folderThe amount of bookmarked text can be as large or as small as you need it to be.
  • You can delete a bookmark by deleting the text inside of it or by returning to Insert > Bookmark and deleting the bookmark from the list.
